About Us
Great music, lovely people, charity fundraising
No two evenings at Strings Incognito are alike. We might be working on true classics of the string repertoire – exploring a movement from the Elgar Serenade, developing our baroque technique in a piece of Bach, enjoying intense playing in Sibelius’s Andante Festivo. Equally, we’re just as at home bringing to life ABBA, Queen, music from film scores and modern string works. We actively seek out music by less-recognised and overlooked composers, including a regular feature of music by women composers.
What every rehearsal has in common is our signature blend of fun, support and focused work. We welcome players of all abilities and will support and stretch you, whether you’re a Diploma level player or just starting your string-playing journey.
Rehearsals
We meet fortnightly on a Tuesday evening from 19:30 – 21:30.
Rehearsals take place at Grittleton Village Hall, a lovely environment with an all-important kitchen to make sure that we get tea and biscuits in our break.
We’re also pretty sure that we are the only orchestra where you’ll often get a cup of tea delivered to your stand at the start of rehearsal – thanks to the amazing Peter.

Repertoire
We love an eclectic mix of music – and believe that, as well a bringing a smile, it helps us to be better all-round musicians.
Our family concerts often feature a mix of light classics, film music as well as rock and pop. We’re also not afraid of more serious repertoire, performing music in our candlelight series which spans more than 400 years of the very best string orchestra repertoire
What makes us special?
Friendly, supportive environment
We like to think that Strings Incognito provides one of the most relaxed and supportive rehearsal environments we know. That doesn’t mean that we don’t work hard or play to high standards – but it does mean that we enjoy ourselves along the way.
Accessible concerts
We love making concerts accessible to everyone. Whether that’s through family-friendly events, bringing music to unusual venues or through our commitment to free entry, we’re focused on making live music open to all.

Charity fundraising
Almost all Strings Incognito concerts raise money for charity. Since our first concert in 2015, we’ve raised money for local, national and global charities, supporting causes such as autism, cancer, homelessness, food poverty, children and more.
